About the Society

Blackpool & District Astronomical Society was formed in October 1986 by a few keen local amateur astronomers from around the Fylde. The society now has around thirty members, with a wide cross section from novices to experienced observers.

Meetings take place on a regular basis on the second Wednesday of every month. Meetings usually include a talk or lecture, by either a guest speaker or one of our own members, and often include a slide show, video or hands-on sessions. Members specialise in areas such as lunar, planetary and deep sky CCD imaging, automation, video astronomy, amateur telescope making and solar observing in both white light and Hydrogen-alpha.

We offer advice including what type of equipment to buy and how to use it. We encourage beginners and new members to learn from our more experienced members

Meetings are friendly and quite informal and all are welcome to attend.

Please note that persons under 16 must be accompanied by a parent/legal guardian at all times when attending meetings and other BADAS events.
